Merzig is a town located
near the borders of France and Luxembourg.
Merzig is located on the banks of the river Saar,
7 km south of Mettlach
in between Saarbruecken and Trier.
The town is part of the Landkreis
Merzig Wadern, which is also called
"der gruene Kreis", the "green District"
because it has such a beautiful nature.
With an e-bike you can easily ride up the hills
and go to France. A walk along the
French German boder
is called
"Steine an der Grenze / Menhirs de l'Europe",
a fascinating small road along the border
with stone sculptures and beautiful views
to both countries.
The road takes you to Luxembourg.
Lovely bars are around the Seffertsbach.
Poststrasse is a "Fussgaengerzone" where cars
are prohibited and you find
the townhall and
nice shops
like the famous book store Rote Zora.
Merzig has a population of about 29,600 people.
Tourists include many cross border visitors.
Visit Merzig.com is an independant website
part of the the Visit Project from
Phone Book of the World.
The idea is to encourage the promotion
of "cultural heritage"
using
a modern internet address
people from every language
can instantly understand
and remember.
The key of the project is the world
Visit
The idea roots in the fact we had
the chance
to run into several tech pioneers
from California.
We met them at
an avan-garde web cafe
while they were travelling
through Europe.
But just before
there was also an inventor from Japan
and a Fashion Lady that onced lived 15 min away .
She had left a little jewel
that financed the very beginning of the story.
These people had crazy ideas
in some way the VisitMerzig.com domain
is a little bit connected to them.
Cities have so many "little beauties"
few people know about.
